For WHAT are we doing all this for?
My intentions as a mother are focused around the Scripture about the feeding of the 5000 in John 6:9 "Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” You see, a few years ago when God revealed this piece of the story to me it transformed my thinking about mundane daily tasks. On a day when it felt like my impact was minimal and doing dishes and laundry were menial, God opened my eyes to His perspective. I realized that little boy had 2 elements I wanted to offer our children. First, he had a lunch to give b/c someone who loved him and was looking out for him packed him a lunch. Second, he was following Jesus and willing to give -
not only to help others, but ultimately to bring God glory.
I resolved that day this passage would be my motto as a mom. To graciously show our kids Christ in the details of daily relationships so they would know God's desire to care for all His children. That they'd be aware of others around them in this world and not solely living for themselves, but truly living from a Team mentality. I want to be so intentional in my actions and words that our kids, like Mary (Jesus' mother), know and trust God so immensely that they boldly answer Yes in the moment God calls them to audacious living.
So, I'm packing lunches, and with the Holy Spirit's strength, loving our children outrageously so they will come to know Jesus' gift of salvation full of grace, freedom and love. Each day counts. Each lunch matters. For it's more about WHO we are doing this for, than what. Let's be intentional together - just as God is intentional with each of us. Our families are worth it, as God has entrusted us with their care!
